Awake In A Dream

A garden springs to life within a color fueled, surrealistic dream and a cast of familiar subjects invites us on a journey: (in order) The Moon and Night Sky, our unlikely trip guide The Statue, a dewy Urn Planter resplendent with its greenery, an ethereal floating Butterfly, twin all- seeing Flowers, an enchanted Fountain and it’s elegant Koi Fish, a luminescent Mushroom, and finally, a Stained Glass window with its glimpse into the unknown.

To create this collection, Graves began by borrowing, rather heavily, from the whimsical folk and Victorian motifs so prevalent in British psychedelia. He then mixed them with references to both art nouveau and art deco illustrations along with a generous dose of electric color. Paired with an era specific soundtrack, the result is a playful, and hallucinogenic, exploration of late 1960s art and optimism..

ABOUT AARON GRAVES

Aaron Graves is a multidisciplinary artist living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A graduate of The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), Graves utilizes photography, fashion design, and installation art to explore themes of identity and beauty, all with a touch of surrealism. Since 2003 he has been featured in multiple galleries including UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Arts, The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center At Colorado College, Praxis Gallery Minneapolis, and Bernstein Display in New York City.
