UCCS artists come together to create an exhibit about safety and comfort
Experience the artwork of seventeen emerging and established artists from UCCS focused on the impact of safety and comfort in times of turmoil in the free, student directed, local art exhibit AFFIX, opening April 23rd until May 16th at the Gallery of Contemporary Arts! The opening reception will be April 23rd from 5 pm to 7 pm.
AFFIX invites visitors to consider what it means to hold onto stability when the world feels uncertain. The turbulence of our current society has thrown many people for a loop, where access to comfort comes at a price that may be unattainable for many. Featuring visual and literary works by UCCS students across disciplines, the exhibition highlights the communities, identities, and practices that help people remain anchored.
From intimate reflections on safety to broader examinations of collective resilience, these works offer a multitude of perspectives that look at how grounding manifests in contemporary spaces. From ceramic, to colorful scenery, to impactful written stories, we invite you to encounter the works of these artists for a limited time only.
The exhibition was curated by ten students from the Museum Studies and Gallery Practices class, led by Dr. Joy Armstrong. The course develops practical competencies for managing contemporary art galleries and exhibition programs.
This student-led exhibit allows both artists and students from the course to experience the ins and outs of exhibition creation, as well as understand the roles that play a part in the creation of an art exhibit.
