Kite Workshop with Nina Elder
Join GOCA for a Kite Workshop with Nina Elder! This 3 hour workshop will include writing, hand-on crafting, and sharing. This will be an opportunity to play, explore, move, and see the air around us in entirely new ways.
What invisible forces form your life? Is there something unnamable that you hold onto? Wind is an invisible force that we live with. It can vary from a gentle breeze to a tornado. The wind lifts birds wings, is fueled by climate change, and is a symbol for the unknown. Through a kite making workshop Nina Elder will lead us in an exploration of what invisible forces we live with. Considering what you want to uplift, let go of, or tether yourself too, each participant will design and create their own kite! Materials will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring items that interest you - photos, texts, magazines, pieces of cloth, ribbons, plastic trash. Kites are known for getting lost or damaged, so we will provide a printer and photocopier so your special items can be duplicated. The kites might fly, but are also intended to be sculptures.
